HOUSING AND ANGLO-PLATINUM SIGN A TWENTY-THOUSAND HOUSES DEAL FOR MINE WORKERS
Johannesburg, The Department of Housing and Anglo Platinum today signed a memorandum of agreement to build 20.000 houses for Anglo Platinum employees in Limpopo and North West province.
The investment by Anglo Platinum in land and servicing 20 000 stands, is more than R1.4 billion and the subsidy contribution over 10 years is more than R900 million. This programme is expected to benefit more than 120 000 people. The total investment including social and economic amenities is over R2.5 Billion.
'Our company values dictate that we assist our employees to have houses, it is our contribution to the improvements of their lives and that of their families. We will subsidise the cost of land and all services, as we meet our legal obligation in terms of the charter, we also provide decent shelters for our employees and their families' said the CEO of Anglo Platinum, Neville Nicolau.
Through this partnership the Department of Housing will release necessary subsidy for those who qualify to build BNG houses which is 40sqm two bedrooms, kitchen and a living space. “This MOU demonstrates that when Government and Private sector work together, we can all move forward faster. One of our biggest challenge to fast -track housing delivery is serviced land, and this partnership facilitate the availability of 20.000 stands, we are indeed breaking new ground together” Acting DG, Kaba Kabagambe said.
All the projects in Limpopo and North West are designed within the BNG principles with clinics, schools and all amenities.
