MINISTER OF HOUSING LINDIWE SISULU HANDS OVER HOUSE TO REFILWE MAKAU, MARCH 30, 2007, ALEXANDAR EXT 7, JOHANNESBURG

Following the much publisized plight of the young girl Refilwe Makau who was born without legs, the Department of Housing and a number of sponsors came together to build a house for Refilwe in Alexandra.  Refilwe’s situation was so bad that she had to be carried from the bus stop to her shack.  A number of people also donated money to a Trust fund which contributed to the building of the house and paying her school fees for this year and coming year.

Members of the media are invited to join Minister of Housing Lindiwe Sisulu for the handing over of this special home Refilwe, her mother and Grand mother.

The department aims to use Refilwe’s sponsored case to create awareness about the plight of the disabled, how special homes for the disabled are catered for by the Department of Housing, and how the additional subsidy for disabled beneficiary needs can be accessed.
