The Cabinet of South Africa has confirmed the appointment of Mr Itumeleng W Kotsoane as the Director-General of the Housing Department.

Reacting to this appointment, the Minister of Housing Lindiwe Sisulu, urged all stakeholders in the Housing fraternity to support and work together with the newly appointed Director-General.

"I would like to welcome Mr Kotsoane to the Department. We are very pleased to have him as our Director-General. His expertise will be very valuable to the Housing Department and the whole housing industry," said Minister Sisulu.

The Minister said all stakeholders should work towards closer co-operation with the Director-General as that is vital for the successful implementation of the Sustainable Human Settlements Plan 'Breaking New Ground' (BNG).

Mr Kotsoane is no stranger to housing, having served as the Free State MEC for Housing between 1996 and 1999, as well as 2004 and 2005. He also had the responsibility of serving as the Free State MEC for Public Safety and Community Liaison from June 2001 to April 2004. From 1999 to 2001 Mr Kotsoane was the MEC responsible for the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism.

"I wish Mr Kotsoane well as he takes on the challenge ahead. He is joining a cadre of very competent and committed officials and I have every confidence that this Department will grow from strength to strength," said Minister Sisulu.
