HOUSING MINISTER EXPRESSES SHOCK ON THE UNTIMELY DEATH OF MEC DUMISANI MAKHAYE

 

In shock after hearing of the untimely death of Kwazulu Natal Local Government, Housing and Traditional affairs MEC, Dumisani Makhaye, the Minister of Housing, Lindiwe Sisulu conveyed her condolences and sympathy to his family and close relatives. 

“To the family, those close and dear to him, we extend our condolences and deep sympathy, as a nation we share their pain and loss. The housing sector has lost one of its most passionate and committed leader ever born in our country” She said. 

Sisulu said MEC Makhaye worked tirelessly all his life to improve the quality of lives of all South Africans.  “Dumisani was a loyal and committed servant of the people who never stopped working for his people until this painful tragedy. Even when he was lying in hospital, he demanded daily briefings from his officials. We will cherish his ideas and vision as we break new ground in housing delivery” Sisulu said. 

Sisulu added that MEC Makhaye’s commitment and passion for housing gave hope to many informal settlements residents that their day will come when they will have a home to call their own.  “We have no doubt that the Kwazulu Natal provincial government will carry forward his vision of a province without informal settlements” She said. 

MEC Makhaye pioneered the Kwazulu Natal housing vision of clearing informal settlements in the shortest time possible.  Often he was seen in informal settlements holding community meetings and building partnership with ordinary people to ensure community involvement in housing projects.
