GOVERNMENT HOLDS BUILDERS OF SUBSIDISED HOMES TO ACCOUNT ON QUALITY

A major national construction company responsible for building approximately 2000 RDP homes in Ugie, in the Eastern Cape, will return to the town on Monday 5 November following complaints about shoddy workmanship raised during the recent Presidential Imbizo. Although the Ugie Project was a provincial project, National Minister of Housing Lindiwe Sisulu was at the Imbizo and promised the community the construction company would be sent back to carry out remedial work. On Monday Ms Sisulu lives up to her word by returning to Ugie with the construction company - and the National Housing Building Regulations Council, which will conduct an audit on the construction quality. The NHBRC is expected to report back to Ms Sisulu within two to three weeks. Ms Sisulu will address the Ugie community at about 11am. For more information please call Mr Ndivhuwo Mabaya of the Department of Housing (083 645 7838) or Prince Xhanti Sigcawu of the State-owned housing agency Thubelisha (082 883 9739).
