Pretoria, South Africa. The Department of Human Settlements will embark on different activities from the 9-15 Nov 2009 to mark the annual Human Settlements week under the theme “Working together to restore people’s dignity”. This year the focus is in Limpopo province.

The Human Settlements week coincides with the Imbizo Focus week which has been widely acknowledged as an effective tool for enhancing dialogue and interaction between the government and people. It provides an opportunity for government to communicate its programme of action and the progress being made. It promotes participation of the public in the programmes to improve their lives.

Thus the Human Settlements week is aimed at highlighting the successes, challenges and planned corrective measures put in place to fast track the delivery of sustainable human settlements. The initiation seeks to foster the spirit of volunteerism and partnerships between government, the community and stakeholders in the housing sector.

Planned activities for this year’s Human Settlements week celebrated in Limpopo include a Celebrity Build. South African Celebrities will build a house for one of the beneficiaries in Moletji, in Ga-Moeti village.

Representatives from the Department of Human Settlements will join the Mayor of Musina, SAPS members, Community Development Workers and Councilors on a Door to Door campaign aimed at addressing some of the challenges facing the communities there.

The Are Ageng Mzansi industrial theatre will also perform during the Human Settlements week to communicate and educate members of the community about programmes of the Department.
