Project Name - Women’s Build 2010

The Department through the Chief Directorate: Stakeholder Management coordinates the National Women’s Build on an annual basis.

The Women’s Build is a Letsema Project organized to commemorate the historic 1956 March to the Union Buildings by women against pass laws. This year’s build is hosted in North West Province, Tlhabologang Township - Coligny (Lichtenburg) in Ditsobotla Local Municipality. The Province has allocated 1956 housing units for five districts by women contractors to commemorate the Women’s March.  The beneficiaries of the housing units include elderly, women headed households and people with disabilities. The Build will be launched by North West MEC for Human Settlements Ms. Desbo Mohono on the 30^th July 2010 in Coligny and starts from 2 August – 24 August 2010.

For the activity weeks of the build in Coligny, 54 housing units will be constructed in celebrating the 54^th Anniversary of the Women’s March. This is part of existing projects of 135 housing units.

Various government departments and agents as well as stakeholders from the private sector have pledged their support to partner with the department in creating sustainable human settlements. At least 100 community volunteers will participate in the Build.
