BACKGROUND
The Youth Build is an
annual event organized to commemorate the 33rd Anniversary of
the historic June 16 1976 upraising. In the spirit of Letsema, youth
from the community, stakeholders from the private sector, housing
institutions and officials from government are mobilized to participate
in the construction of houses for beneficiaries in poor communities.
The Youth Build Project would be hosted in the KwaZulu Natal Province,
uMlalazi Municipality at Eshowe. The Build will commence from 12-26 June
2009 where 76 housing units would be constructed by young people.
Youth Build Objectives
The objectives of the
Youth Build are:

Establish a
dedicated platform for systematic participation of youth in housing
delivery;

Commemorate the
33rd year of the historical event involving youth which culminated
with 16 June;

Instill the
culture of service;
-
Showcase the
dedication and participation of the KZN provincial Department of
Housing towards youth development;

To harness and use
the energy, talents of youth to expedite the pace of housing
delivery;

To build
partnerships with stakeholders to participate in the housing
programme; and
-
To profile youth
in housing delivery through engagement of 76 youth volunteers
