Theme: Youth in Human Settlements Proud to Serve
BACKGROUND
The Youth Build is an
annual event organised to commemorate the historic June 16 1976
upraising. It is a Letsema project which entails the mobilization of
youth from the community, stakeholders from the private sector, housing
institutions and officials from government to participate in the
construction of houses for elderly, people with disabilities and other
vulnerable groups. About 100 youth have been mobilized from Ivory Park
to participate. The Build is scheduled from 23 May 4 June 2010.
What is a Letsema
Youth Build?
The coming
together of volunteers who want to experience the challenges of
building a house. They also want to feel the thrill of watching a
structure go up, a structure that will eventually provide a home for
somebody.

Objectives
Establish a dedicated platform for systematic participation of youth in
human settlements delivery
Commemorate the 1976 youth uprisings through the construction of 76
houses
Instill the culture of service
Showcase the dedication and participation of the Ivory Park Youth and
sector stakeholders towards youth development and community development
To
harness and use the energy, talents of youth to expedite the pace of
housing delivery
To
build partnerships with stakeholders to participate in the human
settlements programme
To
profile youth in human settlements delivery through engagement of 100
youth volunteers from Ivory Park
