MINISTER SISULU TO MEET WITH THE CITY OF CAPE TOWN MAYOR ON THE CITY’S HUMAN SETTLEMENTS CHALLENGES
Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Lindiwe Sisulu will today, 28 July 2020 meet with the Executive Mayor of the City of Cape Town, Cllr Dan Plato to consolidate a plan aimed at addressing human settlements challenges currently facing the city.
Today’s meeting with the Mayor comes just a few days after the Minister had met with community leaders of Khayelitsha and its surrounding areas to understand the cause of the recent unrests in the City of Cape Town. Since this meeting the Minister has been consulting with various stakeholders in order to address the causes of invasions and evictions.
Yesterday, 27 July 2020 Minister Sisulu had a meeting with her counterparts, Ministers of Police, Mr Bheki Cele, Agriculture and Land Reform and Rural Development, Ms Thoko Didiza and Public Works and Infrastructure, Ms Patricia De Lille to devise a plan to address the current challenges facing the people in the City.
“Together we will have to find lasting solutions to our problems. We have a responsibility to address lawlessness and restore order in the City of Cape Town. Violence will never be an answer to any unfortunate situation we find ourselves in presently; we equally have a responsibility to be proactive in addressing landlessness”, said Minister Sisulu.
The meeting between Minister Sisulu and Mayor Plato is scheduled for some time today.
