The Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane, will deliver a keynote address at the National Home Builders Registration Council’s (NHBRC) Youth Build Graduation Ceremony on 12 December 2025 in Gauteng. 

The Youth Build initiative, launched during 2025 Youth Month (June), is a flagship programme that combines meaningful commemoration with practical empowerment. It introduces young people to the construction sector, equipping them with critical technical skills, hands-on experience, and mentorship opportunities.

Graduates from the programme have been trained in bricklaying, plastering, building regulations, and life skills, while also gaining exposure to value chain opportunities within the housing sector. Beyond technical training, the initiative supports artisan, professional, and entrepreneurial development through business incubation and short courses, ensuring that participants are prepared for sustainable careers in construction.

The Youth Build programme is more than a skills development initiative, it is a pathway to economic participation and a cornerstone for building inclusive communities. 

Minister Simelane will be joined by Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements Tasneem Motara and the Rand West Local Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr William Matsheke.
