The launch of the Bachelor of Social Science in Human Settlements was hosted by the University of Fort Hare in partnership with the National Department of Human Settlements and the Department of Higher Education as part of its centenary activities on the 22nd May 2015 at the Alice Campus of UFH, Eastern Cape. The Director-General Mr Thabane Zulu addressed the need for such a degree in the sector while the Deputy Minister of DHET Mr Mduduzi Manana gave a message of support for the collaboration.

The purpose of the launch was to promote and showcase the partnership between the National Department of Human Settlements(NDHS), Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and University of Fort Hare.  The aim was to support the professional development of the Human Settlements Sector.
