Christmas comes early for Nelson Mandela Bay housing contractors
A TOTAL of R24 million was paid to Nelson Mandela Bay housing contractors Friday, taking the total tally of payments made by the Department of Human Settlements over the past two months to R57, 4 million.
The balance of R9, 5 million worth of invoices will be paid by 18 December 2015. There is no contractor with a valid and verified invoice who will not be paid by this date.
Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Member of the Mayoral Committee for Human Settlements Nomvuselelo Tontsi said the payments would ease the burden on contractors and “help them take care of their families during this festive season.
“As a Metro we are committed to keeping our side of the bargain and we are calling on contractors to prepare for what is going to be a very busy 2016 as we upscale the delivery of human settlements in the Municipality,” she said.
The Minister of Human Settlements Lindiwe Sisulu two weeks ago on her visit to Nelson Mandela Bay made R100 million available to the Metro towards the payment of contractors.
These funds are from the National Department of Human Settlements and will be transferred to Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements that will in turn forward the R100 million to Nelson Mandela Bay.
Everyone who had not submitted an invoice by 4 December 2015 would be paid during the next run in January 2016.
