Government and South African Celebrities join forces to build homes for the elderly

Human Settlements Minister, Lindiwe Sisulu will launch the 2015 Human Settlements Celebrity Build at the Savanna City Integrated Human Settlements project in the Sedibeng District Municipality, Gauteng. 

The Celebrity Build campaign is aimed at bringing the Freedom Charter to Life through the construction of houses for 112 year old, Elda Mazongolo and 106 year old Selina van Rooi thus restoring their dignity and ensuring that they enjoy the right to adequate and quality shelter. 

The Minister and Deputy Minister of Human Settlements Zou Kota-Fredericks will be joined by South African Celebrities, MEC for Human Settlements in Gauteng Jacob Mamabolo & Executive Mayors of Sedibeng District Municipality, Emfuleni and Midvaal to launch this year’s build.

During the build, department will also embark on a consumer campaign to educate beneficiaries on how to care and maintain their houses, greening their environment and various human settlements programmes offered by the Department.
