GQEBERHA BENEFICIARIES TO GET NEW GOVERNMENT SUBSIDISED HOMES
The Minister of Human Settlements, Mmamoloko Kubayi and Deputy Minister Pam Tshwete will on Thursday hand over newly built fully subsidized government homes to qualifying beneficiaries, including the elderly and women at the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality in Gqeberha. Over 270 houses will be handed over at Polar Park, KwaLanga Township in Uithenhage, and Qaqawuli in New Brighton respectively.
Government seeks to transform household life of those living in informal settlements through the Informal Settlements Upgrading Programme (ISUP. This financial year ending March 2023, government set aside R4 billion for the upgrading of informal settlements. In the new financial year 2023/2024, the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro will be allocated R300 million to improve the living conditions of households in informal settlements.
The housing units that will be handed over are a result of the intervention by the National Department of Human Settlements War Room announced by Minister Kubayi in her 2022/2023 Budget Vote Speech. Since its establishment, the team has helped to unblock numerous projects in different Provinces.
Minister Kubayi and Deputy Minister Tshwete are expected to be joined by a
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Human Settlements in Nelson Mandela bay Metro, Cllr Tukela Zumani.
