HUMAN SETTLEMENTS DEPUTY MINISTER TO ASSESS THE EXTENT OF FLOOD DAMAGES IN THE OR TAMBO DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY, EASTERN CAPE

Human Settlements Deputy Minister Pam Tshwete, will today, visit Port St John’s in the OR Tambo District Municipality later today to assess damages following heavy rains that resulted in flooding of homes, and businesses and causing damage to other public infrastructure like roads and electricity poles.


Parts of the Eastern Cape i.e., Mnquma, Mbashe, King Sabatha Dalindyebo, Nyandeni, Port St Johns, Ingquza, and Mbizana municipalities are experiencing flooding due to the heavy summer rainfall.
The Deputy Minister and the Mayor of Port St John’s Local Municipality, Cllr Nomvuzo Mlombile-Cingo will be accompanied by teams from the provincial and district disaster management centres as well as the officials dealing with emergency housing response from the National Department of Human Settlements. The visit will seek to provide relief to affected communities and households in a swift and coordinated manner to limit the negative impact of the floods.
