HUMAN SETTLEMENTS SERVICE DELIVERY COMMUNITY IMBIZO WITH SOWETO RESIDENTS

The Minister of Human Settlements, Mmamoloko Kubayi, and Deputy Minister Pam Tshwete, together with Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Parks Tau and the Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements and Infrastructure Development Lebogang Maile, will tomorrow (Thursday, 4 May 2023), convene an imbizo with community members of Soweto to deal with issues relating to service delivery and human settlements.

The Human Settlements Imbizo and Service Fair will focus on service delivery concerns raised by community members during a ministerial visit a few months ago. The issues expected to be discussed include the housing backlog and applications by elderly people who have been on a waiting list since 1996, evictions from rental stock, poor workmanship on government-subsidised homes and beneficiary allocations, interventions for backyard dwellers, delivery of serviced sites for people to build for themselves and provision of basic services such as water and electricity, as part of the upgrading of informal settlements.

The Department will also run a fully-fledged service fair alongside the other spheres of government, where beneficiaries can check their application status and other related information.
The Human Settlements Imbizo and Service Fair will take place as follows:
