President Jacob Zuma accompanied by Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale, Eastern Cape Premier Noxolo Kiviet and Human Settlement MEC Ms Mbulelo Mabandla will launch the Emerald Sky social housing project in East London on 19 June 2010.

Emerald Sky is a social housing partnership between the Department of Human Settlements, National Housing Finance Corporation, the Social Housing Company and the Dutch International Guarantees for Housing. When complete the Emerald Sky project will have 656 rental units.

The project marks a new focus by the Department of Human Settlements on affordable rental units in urban areas, as part of its programme to address the housing backlog and develop sustainable human settlements.
