Media Statement - 14 July 2011

The toilet saga, with reports springing-up from different provinces from time-to-time, represents a renewed community interest and participation in the politics of development as opposed to the politics of politics. This is welcomed by the Minister of Human Settlements Tokyo Sexwale.

Quite clearly many of these abandoned toilets-in-the veld projects, which have been constructed as far back as year 2000 require not a piece-meal approach as they are exposed but a comprehensive solution is needed.

In this regard, the Minister is establishing a Special National Task Team which will be announced next week whose responsibility shall be to deal with this matter in each province and all municipalities.

The poorest of the poor cannot be left in this undignified situation through a fault not of their making.
