MINISTER KUBAYI TO ASSESS HUMAN SETTLEMENTS DELIVERY IN NORTH WEST
The Minister of Human Settlements, Mmamoloko Kubayi, will lead a delegation to the North West on 06 and 07 December, as part of efforts by government to ramp up the provision of sustainable human settlements for all.
Minister Kubayi will amongst others, receive a briefing from the Provincial Department of Human Settlements on the progress made to achieve delivery targets for 2021/2022 financial year. She will further receive a report on areas that require urgent interventions, such as blocked and delayed projects, which have led to sluggish delivery.
During the visit, Minister Kubayi is expected to conduct site inspections at various housing projects in Rustenburg and Moses Kotane Local Municipalities, including the N12 Housing Megaproject in Matlosana Local Municipality. She will also handover title deeds to beneficiaries together with the MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Lena Miga and the Executive Mayors of the affected municipalities.
This oversight visit is particularly crucial after government invoked Section 100 of the constitution, putting the North West under administration. The Ministerial visit will therefore provide a platform for engagement between all three spheres of government and is key towards ensuring there is decisive action by the collective to deal with blockages in our sector.
This includes tackling contractors who deliver substandard work and leaving many people disenfranchised. Seven of the provinces have already been visited since the Minister joined the portfolio in August.
