MINISTER KUBAYI CONVENES COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ON HUMAN SETTLEMENTS IN KHAYELITSHA

The Minister of Human Settlements, Mmamoloko Kubayi and Deputy Minister Pam Tshwete will tomorrow, 09 May 2022, visit Khayelitsha in the City of Cape Town, Western Cape for a community engagement, on the eve of tabling the department’s Budget Vote for the 2022/2023 financial year.

The visit follows an undertaking by the Minister made in March 2022 during an engagement with the leadership of informal settlements and development forums, to collectively find solutions to human settlements issues affecting communities.

One of the priorities of the Department of Human Settlements is the Upgrading of Informal Settlements, which entails provision of basic municipal services such as water, sanitation, electricity and security of tenure. This is achieved through the utilization of Urban Settlement Development Grant (USDG) provided to Metropolitan Municipalities to carry out this task.

The Minister and Deputy Minister are expected to be joined by the Western Cape MEC of Infrastructure, Tertuis Simmers, MMC of Human Settlements in the City of Cape Town, Malusi Booi and sub-council chairs, amongst others.
