Human Settlements Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi will tomorrow, 24 January 2023, visit two schools in the Pixley Ka Seme District Municipality in the Northern Cape to provide educational and social support with the resumption of the 2023 school calendar.

In her capacity as the District Development Model (DDM) Champion for the Pixley Ka Seme District, the Minister will visit Strydenburg Combined School in Thembelihle Local Municipality and Phakamisani High School in Mthanjeni Local Municipality, respectively.

The visit follows the announcement of the National Senior Certificate results, which highlighted some improvements across the country. The Northern Cape achieved an overall pass rate of 74,2%. The improved pass rate is encouraging and bolsters government efforts through the DDM’s one plan approach, to prioritise better education, economic growth, employment, improved living conditions, as well as the fight against crime and corruption in localities.

As part of the visit, the Minister will interact with this year’s matriculants and handover learning material as per the needs assessment of each school. The Minister will be joined by the MEC for Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs in the Northern Cape, Bentley Vass, District Mayor Cllr Rhoode Itumeleng, the School Management Team as well as the School Governing Body and local leaders.
