MINISTER KUBAYI JOINS HANDS TO BUILD FOR MADIBA AND HANDOVER A HOUSE
In commemorating the legacy and life of our late Great Leader, Nelson Mandela, the Minister of Human Settlements Mmamoloko Kubayi will tomorrow (18 July 2022) hand over a house to a destitute family in Zandspruit, Johannesburg in the Gauteng Province.
The Minister will also participate in the building of an additional five new homes to beneficiaries in Orange Farm in Gauteng. This year’s Nelson Mandela Day is commemorated under the theme: “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are” - a clarion call for all to be of service to those around them, particularly the vulnerable and the environment.
Following the house handover in Zandspruit, Minister Kubayi will proceed to Orange Farm to join hands with Habitat for Humanity South Africa and the Nelson Mandela Foundation for the annual Build for Madiba campaign.
The Build for Madiba 2022 campaign, taking place between 18-22 July 2022, is aimed at encouraging public-private partnerships to support efforts by the government to provide decent shelter for all, particularly for the indigent. Moreover, it seeks to ensure that people connect with, contribute towards and commemorate the good deeds of Tata Madiba.
The Minister will officially open the activation on Monday, joined by Habitat for Humanity South Africa CEO, Mr Cyrus Watuku, Head of Old Mutual Foundation, Ms Fikile Kuhlasi, the Executive Head of Nedbank Foundation, Ms Poovice Pillay and 100 local volunteers.
