Minister Sisulu responds to allegations of illegal sale of Government subsidized houses in the Western Cape

The Minister of Human Settlements, Lindiwe Sisulu, MP has noted with grave concern allegations of fraud and corruption levelled against the councillor in the Democratic Alliance (DA) led George Municipality.

The councillor in question is said to be selling Breaking New Ground houses and Government subsidised plots in Rosedale, Western Cape.

“It will be quite disturbing that a councillor took advantage of our elderly people for his/her self narrow interests. It is also equally disturbing to learn that Municipality has not taken steps to suspend the councillor in question for such a fraudulent act”, said Minister Sisulu.

“One of the Government priorities is to ensure that there are houses for vulnerable groups such as senior citizens, child headed households and disabled. The councillor must be ashamed for taking advantage of the indigent. We commend law enforcement agencies for taking a swift action against this illegal act”, added Sisulu.

“This should serve as a warning to all those involved in the illegal sale of BNG houses that the arm of the law will soon catch up with them. We appeal to our people to expose these illegal activities by reporting them to the nearest police stations”, concluded Sisulu.
