The Minister for Human Settlements Lindiwe Sisulu has noted reports that the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality intends demolishing poorly built double storey units which were constructed without the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) enrolment of plans at NU29 in Motherwell.

Minister Sisulu would like to remind the newly elected leadership of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro that the municipality’s housing department remains under a Cabinet intervention and it has no right to make decisions on human settlements or related matters without consulting the other parties to the agreement.

The Minister will be engaging with the other two spheres of government with the aim of ensuring that this matter is urgently attended to and those responsible for this debacle brought to book.
