CELEBRATING THE START OF HERITAGE MONTH WITH THE HANDOVER OF HOUSES AND TITLE DEEDS IN GEORGE, WESTERN CAPE
The Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, Tandi Mahambehlala, together with the Western Cape Minister of Infrastructure, Tertuis Simmers, and the Executive Mayor of George Municipality, Alderman Jackie von Brandis, will on Friday, 5 September 2025, hand over houses and title deeds. This will include the handing over of houses to military veterans at Syferfontein and Breaking New Ground (BNG), and First Home Finance housing units to deserving and qualifying beneficiaries Metro Grounds Housing Projects in George Municipality, Garden Route District, Western Cape.
The handing over of houses and title deeds is a government programme, framed as a fundamental act of restoring human dignity by providing secure, legally recognised home ownership, replacing historical inequalities and informal settlements with stability, rights, and a sense of belonging.
The Erf 325 Syferfontein is a catalytic project that will yield more than 15,000 units on completion. These comprise fully subsidised BNG houses, military veterans’ homes, bonded houses including First Home Finance units, and houses for people with disabilities. The Metro Grounds Housing Project, on the other hand, has 632 BNG housing units, which are expected to be completed in December 2025, with 436 units already completed and 196 at various stages of construction.
As part of the Title Deeds Friday campaign, beneficiaries will also be given title deeds, thus confirming legal ownership of their homes. This is a nationwide campaign aimed at accelerating the issuing of title deeds to the rightful owners.
