Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the areas of housing and human settlements between South Africa and Kenya, Human Settlements Minister Hon. Mmamoloko Kubayi will host the Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Alice Wahome and a delegation from the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development of the Republic of Kenya, from 13 to 14 December 2023.

The highlight of the visit is the launch of the South Africa - Kenya Affordable Housing Forum, which will be an opportunity for business and government to explore solutions to the affordable housing sector challenges. The visit will also include high-level engagements between the Minister and Cabinet Secretary, senior officials, and entities on collaboration between South Africa and Kenya. This collaboration will offer opportunities in the delivery of affordable housing for public and private entities along the entire housing development value chain, from manufacturing, construction, and other infrastructure development related sectors.

Kenyan President H.E William Ruto invited South African business in the affordable housing value chain to explore development opportunities in Kenya, while H.E President Cyril Ramaphosa in turn committed that the South African government would, as part of this cooperation, coordinate the affordable housing sector to take advantage of this invitation and ensure that this is mutually beneficial for both countries.

Minister Kubayi will be joined by Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, Hon. Pam Tshwete, CEOs of Human Settlements Entities and representatives from the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and a business delegation.
