Minister Thembi Simelane and Deputy Minister Tandi Mahambehlala will lead a team from Human Settlements on an In-Loco inspection of the Regent Villas Social Housing Project in Mitchell’s Plain in the City of Cape Town, Western Cape.

The project, established to respond to housing shortage and the provision of affordable rental accommodation in the Weltevreden Valley area, is divided into three phases i.e., Regent Villas with 104 units complete and tenanted, Regent Extension 1 with 60 units complete and tenanted and extension 2 expected to yield 110 units upon completion in August and tenanting expected to begin in September this year.

As part of the visit, The Minister and Deputy Minister will be accompanied by Human Settlements MEC’s from Mpumalanga, Speedy Mashilo, Free State, Saki Mokoena, North West, Oageng Molapisi and CEO’s from Human Settlements entities and will interact with tenants before a walk about to assess progress on the active sites aimed at bringing people closer to work opportunities, social and religious amenities such as churches and mosques, educational facilities, public transport.
