DEPUTY MINISTER MAHAMBEHLALA AND MEC LUSITHI TO HAND OVER HOUSE KEYS TO A SENIOR CITIZEN

Tandi Mahambehlala, the Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, and Siphokazi Lusithi, the Eastern Cape MEC of Human Settlements, will hand over a newly built house to a senior citizen tomorrow, 02 March 2025.

72 year old Ms Yekiswa Nontsizakalo’s house structural integrity was affected by activity from heavy machinery and equipment for earthmoving works during the construction of a road in the area, worsened by the impact of floods, her house was destroyed, leaving her homeless.

Through the department emergency housing programme, she was provided with a Temporary Housing Unit whilst a permanent solution was being sought, thus as a result of concerted efforts by officials in the Department and the Presidential Hotline, human settlements sector stakeholders including the NHBRC came together to build a new home for gogo Nontsizakalo.

Deputy Minister Mahambehlala will also visit destitute and flood victims at Engcobo to provide temporary housing units while permanent housing solutions are sought.

Government remains committed to providing houses to vulnerable groups including the elderly and persons with disabilities.
