MINISTER SIMELANE TACKLES TRANSFORMATION IN THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT
Minister of Human Settlements Thembi Simelane will launch the Emerging Developer Incubator and Post-Investment Support Programme on Friday, 28 March 2025, to empower emerging developers. The incubator programme will catalyze the transformation of the built environment and assist the Department of Human Settlements (DHS) in achieving its five-year targets.
The DHS 2025/2030 Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP) seeks to deliver over 200,000 housing units, 237,000 serviced sites, 15,000 social housing units and upgrade over 4000 informal settlements.
This technical support programme, a brainchild of the National Housing Finance Corporation (NHFC), a DHS agency, will present an opportunity for contractors and emerging property developers to participate and play an active role in assisting the department in housing the nation.
The DHS is expected to deliver several housing opportunities over the next five years and beyond. Accordingly, emerging developers who are supported throughout the project development lifecycle will help accelerate the delivery of expected affordable housing units over the period.
Minister Simelane will be joined by, amongst others, Deputy Minister Tandi Mahambehlala, MECs of Human Settlements, and Mayors.
