HUMAN SETTLEMENTS DEPUTY MINISTER LEADS EFFORTS TO ASSIST HOUSEHOLDS AFFECTED BY EVICTIONS FROM THEIR HOMES IN KHAYELITSHA
The Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, Tandi Mahambehlala and the CEO of the Property Practioners Regulatory Authority (PPRA) Thato Ramaili, will visit Khayelitsha in the City of Cape Town to engage the community, mostly households affected by the ongoing evictions from their houses, slow pace in the delivery of title deeds and other service delivery issues. This Community & Stakeholders engagement on housing evictions aims to provide a platform for dialogue and immediate intervention.
The Deputy Minister’s visit, together with the CEO of PPRA, an entity of the National Department of Human Settlements responsible for among other things, regulating the affairs of all property practitioners and ensuring consumer protection against undesirable practices, seeks to find solutions to the alleged illegal evictions involving banking institutions and Property Practitioners. The Community & Stakeholders engagement on housing evictions will also explore collaborative approaches to strengthen accountability and accelerate service delivery.
