The Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane, together with Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi and MEC for Human Settlements, Tasneem Motara will hand over title deeds and housing units to qualifying residents at Lesedi Local Municipality. This forms part of the government’s efforts and commitment to restoring people’s dignity, ensuring security of tenure, and unlocking asset value.

In its quest to accelerate registration and issuing of title deeds to the rightful owners, the department launched the Title Deeds Fridays Campaign. Since the launch in 2023, approximately 80,000 title deeds have been handed over to fully subsidised government housing beneficiaries nationwide.

Gauteng province has committed to registering 41,214 title deeds between 2024 and 2029 as part of the Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP). To date, 15,221 title deeds have already been issued, demonstrating steady progress towards this target. This Friday, over 1000 title deeds will be handed over to the beneficiaries, thus confirming legal ownership of homes, protecting owners against illegal evictions, and bringing peace of mind to families and future generations.

The Minister, Premier, MEC and the entire delegation will also preside over the handover of 132 newly built housing units to qualifying households at Impumelelo Mega project. The project is expected to deliver 6284 housing units. To date, 5520 housing units have been completed.
