MINISTER SIMELANE AND MEC MOTARA TO LAUNCH A SOCIAL HOUSING PROJECT IN BENONI
The Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane, together with the Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Tasneem Motara will on Monday, 30 March 2026, officially launch the Benoni Heights Social Housing project, in Ekurhuleni, Gauteng Province.
Located within the Benoni Central Business District (CBD), the Benoni Heights social housing project has different types of units. These are 67 bachelors, 65 one bedrooms and 78 two bedrooms. Some of the features of the project include, recreational and, entertainment areas for residents.
The social housing programme is strictly for rental. Potential tenants can expect to pay between just above R800 and R5, 200. Since it’s located in the CBD, the project will provide affordable, and decent accommodation for a wide range of people. These include government and private sector employees.
Prior to the project handover, Minister Simelane, in her capacity as a District Development Model (DDM) Champion for the City of Ekurhuleni, will meet with Provincial and Municipal leadership to strengthen intergovernmental coordination, thus ensuring there is one plan for integrated development. Expected to attend are the Executive Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni, Alderman Nkosingiphile Xhakaza, Gauteng MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Jacob Mamabolo.
