Human Settlements Deputy Minister, Tandi Mahambehlala together with the board chairperson of the Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA),Pulane Thobejane, Executive Director and CEO of Povicom, Riyard Abrahams, will launch the Regent Ext 2, an additional 110 units at the Regent Villas Social Housing Project aimed at providing affordable rental accommodation to households earning within the income threshold of Social Housing, in the Weltevreden Valley area in the City of Cape Town.

The completion of these units symbolises a significant milestone in reversing the impact of apartheid spatial planning, advancing affordable rental housing opportunities, realising integrated human settlements, and contributing to improved access to quality, well-located accommodation for low-to moderate-income householdsin the Western Cape. 

This development, strategically located near key transport routes, economic nodes, and social amenities, enhancing access to employment opportunities and essential services for residents, demonstrates strong socio-economic impact, including job creation during construction, transformation through participation of empowered contractors and professionals, and ongoing community upliftment initiatives.

The launch will also be attended by the MMC for Human Settlements in the City of Cape Town, Cllr Carl Pophaim, the CE of SHRA, Lebowa Letsoalo, the Western Cape Department of Infrastructure and the National Housing Finance Cooperation (NHFC).
