DEPUTY MINISTER MAHAMBEHLALA AND MEC MOKOENA TO HAND OVER TITLE DEEDS TO THE FREE STATE MILITARY VETERANS AND SENIOR CITIZENS
The Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, Tandi Mahambehlala, together with the Free State MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Saki Mokoena, will handover title deeds to the military veterans and senior citizens ranging from 70 to 90 years old at Welkom in Free State Province.
This handover is part of the accelerated effort by the Department of Human Settlements’ ongoing commitment to eliminate the national title deeds backlog through the Title Deeds Fridays Campaign.
Since the launch of the Campaign in 2023, over 80 000 title deeds have been issued to government-subsidized housing beneficiaries. The campaign seeks to accelerate the registration and transfer of the title deeds to the beneficiaries.
Through the Title Deeds Restoration Programme, government seeks to restore dignity, strengthen tenure security, unlock and promote economic empowerment for beneficiaries. Already, about 48% of the 2024-2029 Medium Term Development Plan (MTDP) target has been achieved.
The Deputy Minister and MEC will be joined by the Executive Mayor of Lejweleputswa District Municipality, Cllr Maseko and Executive Mayor of Matjhabeng Local Municipality, Cllr Khalipha.
