MINISTER SIMELANE AND MEC MOTARA TO HANDOVER HOUSES BUILT BY YOUTH
The Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane, together with the Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Tasneem Motara, will tomorrow, 02 July 2026, handover houses and title deeds at the Youth Build Closing Ceremony at Impumelelo Mega project,Lesedi Local Municipality in Gauteng.
In commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the 1976 Youth Uprisings, the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) and National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) trained sixty (60) young volunteers in different aspects of construction. As part of the training, youth participated in the construction of houses at the Mega Project (Impumelelo) which consists of approximately 6824 units with different housing typologies.
The Youth Build initiative is a programme that combines meaningful commemoration with practical empowerment. It introduces young people into the construction sector, equipping them with critical technical skills, hands-on experience, and mentorship opportunities.
Young people are trained in bricklaying, plastering, building regulations, and life skills, while also gaining exposure to value chain opportunities within the housing sector. Beyond technical training, the initiative supports artisan, professionals, and entrepreneurial development through business incubation and short courses, ensuring that participants are prepared for sustainable careers in construction.
Close to 300 tittle deeds will also be handed over to the rightful beneficiaries as part of the Title Deeds Restoration Programme aimed at accelerating the issuing of title deeds.
Minister Simelane will be joined by Sedibeng District Mayor Cllr Lerato Maloka and Lesedi Local Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr Mluleki Nelson Nkosi.
