The Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, Ms Tandi Mahambehlala, together with Council member and chairperson of the Social, Ethics and Transformation Committee at the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC), Donavan Goliath, will hand over a newly built home to the Mdlulwa family in Khayelitsha, City of Cape Town, in commemoration of Nelson Mandela Month.

The Mdlulwa family's home was destroyed by a fire caused by a fallen candle, leaving them homeless and dependent on relatives for shelter. Through a public-private partnership, the family has been provided with a newly built home, an expression of government's commitment to restoring dignity and supporting vulnerable households.

The handover gives practical meaning to the words of former President Nelson Mandela: "It is in your hands to make our world a better one for all, especially the poor, vulnerable and marginalized."

Held under this year's Nelson Mandela Day theme, "It's still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity," the ceremony reflects the collective responsibility of government and its partners to rebuild lives, strengthen communities, and restore hope.
