The Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane together with the Executive Director for UN-Habitat, Anacláudia Rossbach will tomorrow, 13 August 2026 handover housing units at Kennedy Road in eThekwini Metro.

 This will precede the inauguration of the UN-Habitat South Africa Country Office scheduled to take on 14 August 2026 in the City of Tshwane.

 Kennedy Road Informal Settlement is one of the largest informal settlements within the Municipality. Government has over the current Medium Term Development Plan (MDTP 2024/2029) committed to upgrading over 4000 informal settlements across the country.

 Joined by the Executive Mayor of eThekwini Municipality, Cllr Cyril Xaba, Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, Tandi Mahambehala and KZN MEC for Human Settlements and Transport, Siboniso Duma the handover will demonstrate government efforts to formalise informal settlements whilst providing decent and improving living conditions of the affected households.
