The Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane together with the Northern Cape MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (COGHSTA), Lebogang Motlhaping, will lead a handover of newly built houses together with the title deeds at Lerato Park, Kimberley. 

Minister Simelane has been challenging Provinces to prioritise township establishments together with the construction of houses so that a house can be handed over to a beneficiary with a title deed at the same time. Northern Cape is one of the provinces which has responded to the clarion call.

It will be for the first time that Minister Simelane handover houses and issue title deeds at the same time to the beneficiaries.

LA title deed is not just a piece of paper, it ensures to security of tenure, unlocks household asset value, and confirms legal ownership of a home, thus bringing peace of mind to families and future generations.

This ceremony will precede a quarterly meeting between the Minister and Provincial MECs of Human Settlements, also taking on the same day in Kimberley. The meeting is expected to take stock of the sector’s financial and non-financial performance. Other items on the agenda include progress reports on Emergency Housing Response to Disasters, Informal Settlements Upgrading Programme, Housing for Military Veterans and Title Deeds Restoration Programme.
