The Minister of Human Settlements, Ms Thembi Simelane, will tomorrow, 29 September 2026, deliver the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Legacy Commemorative Lecture and lead the official unveiling of a statue in honour of the late Mama Winnie Madikizela-Mandela in the Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Eastern Cape.

The event seeks to celebrate and preserve the enduring legacy of Mama Winnie, whose courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the struggle for liberation and social justice continue to inspire communities across South Africa.

The commemorative lecture and statue unveiling will bring together representatives of the three spheres of government, traditional leaders, members of the Madikizela-Mandela family, community members, and other stakeholders to honour the life and contributions of the late Mother of the Nation.

Minister Simelane will be joined by the Executive Mayor of the Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Cllr Tsileng Sobuthongo, and the Mayor of the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality, Ms Theodora Daniswa.
