The Minister of Human Settlements, Mmamoloko Kubayi and Deputy Minister Pam Tshwete, will on Friday 06 October 2023, launch the Title Deeds Friday Campaign by handing over the first batch of title deeds to the community of MAWIGA (Mabopane, Winterveld and Ga-Rankuwa), north of Tshwane in Gauteng.

The Minister declared MAWIGA a Ministerial Project and established a committee with the community to resolve the ownership and transfer for 8 000 uncontested properties held by the City of Tshwane. The over 14,000 properties, including contested ones, date back to pre-1994.

In September 2023, the Minister and MECs of Human Settlements resolved that the Title Deeds Friday Campaign must be initiated across the country. The campaign aims to mobilise beneficiaries of government-subsidized homes or Breaking New Grounds (BNGs) to collect their title deeds at municipality offices. During the campaign, it is expected that MECs and councilors dedicate part of their Fridays to dispatch and encourage beneficiaries to collect their title deeds.

“Government has been working around the clock to unblock the issuing of title deeds across provinces. It is in that regard we consider the launching of a National Title Deed Fridays Campaign with beneficiaries in MAWIGA significant, as it shows that with partnership, nothing is impossible to achieve, “said Minister Kubayi.

“The progress we have made and ultimately handing over these historic title deeds is a testament that we are fully committed to giving back dignity by transferring these properties to the rightful owners”, added the Minister.

The Ministerial delegation will include City of Tshwane MMC for Human Settlements, Ofentse Madzabatela.
